My Greatest Fear #3: Spiders

Earlier tonight, I was just minding my own business and browsing the web for some research on a project I’m thinking about starting, when my focus was completely interrupted by a monster who has decided to take up residence in my apartment.

I saw it out of the corner of my eye, and after the initial paralyzing panic wore off, I jumped up to do the only logical thing to eradicate this monster: grab a glass from the cabinet, trap the beast, and solicit help from Facebook.

Camera phone always at the ready, I snapped a picture, and if you feel like seeing my newest roommate, go here for the Facebook post. I don’t want to terrify anyone or be the cause of nightmares, otherwise I’d just attach the picture here. 🙂

My fear of spiders is one I’m sure a lot of people all over the world share, and while being able to trap a spider and then have to deal with removing it (or squishing it) isn’t fun, seeing a spider and not being able to trap/kill it is a much worse position to be in.

It’s pretty cowardly of me to just leave it under the glass, but at least this way I know exactly where the creepy crawly is located… and know that I won’t be receiving a surprise visitor while I’m trying to sleep tonight.

For situations such as this one, I kind of wish I had a roommate who would just take care of my little predicament, so until I’m brave enough to take care of the problem myself (or if someone wants to volunteer to take care of it for me– that would be awesome!) I’m just going to give my new roomie the name of Spidey, and hope he stays right where he is currently trapped.

As stated on my Facebook post, I’ve accepted the fact that a glass on the floor in my kitchen is now just part of the decor at my place.

How do you react when a terrifying spider appears? And, what’s the best way to get rid of this one (once I work up some courage)– squish to kill or capture and release back into the wild?
