Deck the Halls

My family tends to go borderline Griswold when it comes to Christmas decorations, and while I’d love to shift the blame elsewhere, I’m an instigator and collaborator on their holiday decorating.

It all started out innocently enough, many years ago when I decided to hang some lights on the front porch at our old house, but every year since then has had some additions.

This year, by far, takes the cake for most holiday cheer at my parents’ house, and a few days ago when I was visiting, I snapped some pictures of the decorations so far.

So many outside lights, that this was required to not overload the fuses on the strands of lights.

My biggest contribution this year was taking turns with my step-brother at climbing the ladder and hanging all of the icicles. Who knew 10-14 mile an hour winds and a 20 foot ladder weren't a good combination?

What house is complete without a leg lamp? And a photobombing cat. :)

Hung by the fire with care, stockings and some other assorted Christmas fun, including several creepy animated chotckies.

My mom's favorite Christmas decorations-- every year a new addition usually makes its way under the tree for her.

I won’t bore you any more with more holiday pictures, even though this is just the tip of the iceberg. I am very glad that the whole “Elf on the Shelf” trend started after all of my siblings and I were grown, as that little guy is pretty creepy, so thankfully no elves are hiding out with my parents this holiday season.

With all of this Christmas cheer on display at my parents’ house, I haven’t decided if I’ll decorate any at my apartment this year, especially since I’ll be home for the holidays.

Do you go all out on decorating for the holidays, or prefer to keep it simple?
