Yes, Please: Stitch Fix

A few months ago a good friend introduced me to a fantastic service for women like myself who are fashion-challenged: Stitch Fix.

With the assistance of answers you provide on a quick questionnaire, as well as links to your Pinterest boards or Twitter profile (if  you choose to share them), a professional stylist will send you a box of 5 unique clothing/accessory items to try on and purchase from the comfort of your home. If you don’t like what they’ve sent, just place the rejects into the provided prepaid envelope and drop it in the nearest mailbox. For the items you want to keep, it’s just a matter of logging in to the Stitch Fix website and selecting what to keep and charging the final cost to the payment method you have on file.

I was skeptical at first of this actually working out for me, since shopping is a pain and I hate trying on clothes at the store, but I gave it a try anyway.

As soon as I opened the box sent to me earlier this week, I knew I was in trouble because the pops of color and feel of fabric on the clothes waiting to be tried on had me eager to immediately strip and start trying on the hand-picked items.

I had a little bit of sticker shock at some of the prices, and told myself that no matter how much I loved everything, I was going to limit my purchases (if any) to just one thing.

Trying to decide which item of the 5 sent was a tough decision, and in the end, one that I didn’t really have to make (a few items ended up being discounted and the final figure was something I could live with for keeping all 5 pieces… and if you buy everything you get an extra 25% off the total which winds up making some things “free”).

By far, my favorite piece was a fabulous jean jacket, which I will probably wear on a daily basis once the summer temperatures start to drop.

I love everything about this jacket, and continue to suck at taking camera phone pictures. :)

One of the best parts about this service is seeing the unique items that a professional thinks you would like, especially since the items sent to me are things that I probably would have never selected for myself. Also, the whole not having to go to the mall is a big bonus.

It’s not something I’ll do every month, but maybe every few months it’ll be a nice treat and a way to help spice up my closet and personal style.

If you feel like trying it out, here’s a handy referral link. 🙂
